What Canadian Values Actually Require
Values mean little unless they shape duties, institutions, and decisions.
Canadian Identity
Values mean little unless they shape duties, institutions, and decisions.
Canadian values cannot be reduced to slogans.
If values mean anything, they have to shape duties, institutions, and decisions. Fairness should mean fairness between generations, not just language about compassion. Tolerance should include room for honest disagreement. Public order should be understood as part of freedom, not its enemy.
A serious country needs confidence without arrogance. It should know its interests, defend its sovereignty, welcome newcomers well, and expect citizens to contribute to the shared life of the country.
Values are not proven by repeating them. They are proven when public systems work, when citizens accept responsibilities, and when the country can tell the truth about itself without falling into either denial or contempt.
