Privacy
Last updated: August 25, 2026
Yafbog is a social website. That means some information is meant to be shared with other people, while other information is necessary for operating your account and the service.
This page explains the basic categories of information Yafbog handles and how we use them. It will become more detailed as the service develops.
Information you provide
Depending on how you use Yafbog, you may provide information including:
- Your username and email address
- Profile information
- Journals, media, comments, and other content you post
- Friendship, following, blocking, and other connection information
- Private messages
- Account and privacy settings
- Information you send when requesting help or reporting a problem
Your password is stored using a one-way password hashing process. Yafbog does not need to know your original password in order to authenticate you.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, Yafbog may receive technical information when you use the service, including things such as:
- IP address
- Browser and device information
- Requested pages and resources
- Request timestamps
- Session and authentication information
- Error, security, and diagnostic information
We use this information to operate the service, diagnose problems, prevent abuse, and protect accounts and infrastructure.
Cookies and sessions
Yafbog uses cookies or similar browser storage where necessary to maintain sessions, remember settings, and provide security features.
We do not need to turn every page view into an archaeological expedition through your browsing habits.
Public and restricted content
Information you make public may be visible to anyone who can access Yafbog and may be shared or copied by other people.
Content with restricted visibility is only intended to be shown according to the privacy controls available for that content. No internet service can guarantee that another person will never copy information after being allowed to view it.
Private messages
Private messages are not publicly displayed.
They should not be treated as end-to-end encrypted communications unless Yafbog specifically says otherwise. Authorized systems or personnel may need limited access where necessary to operate the service, investigate abuse or security problems, or comply with legal obligations.
Service providers
Yafbog may use outside infrastructure and service providers for things such as hosting, storage, email delivery, security, and network services.
Those providers may process limited information as necessary to provide those services.
Selling personal information
Yafbog does not sell personal information to advertisers or data brokers.
We would rather build a social website than operate a lightly disguised livestock exchange for browser histories.
Data retention
Information may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the service, maintain security and integrity, resolve disputes, comply with legal obligations, and preserve information that legitimately remains part of conversations or other users' activity.
Retention rules and account-management controls may become more specific as Yafbog develops.
Changes to this policy
Yafbog will change, and this policy may change with it.
Material updates will be reflected on this page, including an updated revision date.
